Coaches Corner - 2007 Wausau Smiley Invitational

Coach Scott Anderson

The LaCrosse Central Girls Cross-Country team competed in the 52nd Annual Bill Smiley Open in Wausau, Wisconsin.  The Girls captured 2nd place overall out of the 25 team invitational.  They lost to 9th ranked Homestead but defeated 12th ranked Stevens Point and 14th ranked Pulaski.  The Red-Raiders were led by two great preformances from Hannah Pollack and Miranda Sanchez posting times of 15:53 and 15:54 respectfully.  Next was Abby Knutson who ran an excellent race placing 28th with a time of 16:14.  Azjja Kjos was our fourth runner in with a time of 16:16 and Ashley Hammes completed our scoring running a 16:34.  This was an excellent TEAM race for us against some excellent competition.  Megan Baumler was the 8th fastest freshman posting a 16:37 and she was our 6th runner in.  Hope Cowan and Marissa Fellenz were the 7th and 8th runners in for the Red-Raiders with times of 17:10 and 17:16.  I saw some very gutty performances by the young ladies.

The JV team placed 7th out of 31 teams.  They were led by her best race yet of the year, Annie Wanniger.  She place 6th out of 410 runners with a time of 17:30.  She was followed by Jaime Brackeen who placed 17 with a time of 17:45.  Next were Emma Smalley, Ella Overholt, and Kelly Fitzpatrick who made up the scoring for Central.  Shelby Dukes, Kelsey Quinn, Sabrina Aspenson, Jasmine Guetschow, and Heather Leyland were the next Red-Raiders to finish in that order.  The JV will next be in action at Drugans on Tuesday.
