Coaches Corner - 2008 Verona Invitational

Coach Scott Anderson

The LaCrosse Cenral Girls Cross Country team opened their season at Verona Saturday.  The varsity team placed 2nd in Division 1and 3rd overall.  Coach Anderson was very proud of the effort the 6 young ladies gave.  Hannah Pollack was Centrals 1st runner in placing 12th over all with an excellent time of 16:21.  Hannah improved her time 1:21 from last year's meet.  That is phenominal... Central's second runner was Miranda Sanchez who placed 16th out of 150 runners with a time of 16:41.  This was Miranda's first big cross-country meet.  Our third runner in was Abby Knutson who placed 35th in a time of 17:07 which was 10 seconds better than last year.  Megan Baumler, a freshman, was our 4th runner placing 51st with a time of 17:31and our fifth runner was also a freshman, Marissa Fellenz who placed 64 with a time of 17::46.  I thought these two freshman ran extremely well for us today.   Our sixth runner in was Hope Cowan who place 69th in a time of 17:50.  These ladies opened the season showing they are in pretty good shape.  Great job ladies and good luck at Luther next week.

The JV team placed 7th out of 22 teams.  Annie Wanniger was the top runner placing 14th overall.  At the mile she was in about 40th position and kept moving up.  Annie ran an excellent race I thought.  She was followed by Jaime Brackeen 50th, Kelsey Quinn 55th, Kelly Fitapatrick 59, and Ella Overholt 60th in the scoring.  There were 342 runners in the JV race.  Also running were Emma Smalley 76th, Shelby Dukes 97th, Sabrina Aspenson 249th, and Jasmine Guetschow 277th.  Jasmine improved 3:18 from last year.  Outstanding.  Congratulations Girls.
