Coaches Corner - 2008 Luther All-American Invitational

Coach Scott Anderson

The La Crosse Central girls cross country team ran a great team race at Luther Saturday.  They placed 2nd out of 14 teams.  Hannah Pollack led the red-raiders with an 8th place finish with a time of 16:02.  Miranda Sanchez ran a very strong race placing 11th in a time of 16:10.  Azjja Kjos and Ashley Hammes were back in the line up placing 20th and 23rd with times of 16:31 and 16:36 and we're glad they were.  Abby Knutson ran an excellent race placing 25th in 16:37 to round out the scoring for Central.  Our two freshmen also ran strong races with Megan Baumler placing 30th in 16:52 and Marissa Fellenz 17:09 placing 46th.  This was a very good meet for us and we are hoping to work hard and improve on this.

I thought the J.V. team had an excellent race today in placing 3rd overall.  Hope Cowan showed her ex hometown team she came to run as she placed 5th with a time of 17:07. Annie Wanniger ran another strong race as she placed 9th overall with a time of 17:50.  Our 3rd runner in was Jamie Brackeen placing 16th in 18:10.  Our fourth runner was Emma Smalley placing 27th in 18:37 and rounding out the scoring was Ella Overholt who placed 40th in 18:54.  Great races were also run by Shelby Dukes with a personal best of 18:58, Kelly Fitzpatrick in 19:09, Kelcey Quinn in 19:36, Sabrina Aspenson in 21:38, and Jasmine Guetschow in 22:10.  The Red-Raiders will next be in action Saturday at Wausau.

I would also like to share that a few ex red-raiders ran extremely well Saturday.  Flannery Cerbin was the 3rd fastest women in at Luther's College meet.  She ran a tremendous race trailing two of Division III's best runners earning Luther's number two runner in.  Alexa Renstrom ran in a rain storm for the University of Wisconsin in Northern Illinois earning the 8th Badger in placing 9th overall. And Tiffany Gardner was running for River Falls earning their number 8 runner in.
